The Marvel Universe has been left in shock after the demise of its creator Stan Lee at 95, who revolutionized pop culture as the co-creator of iconic superheroes like Spider-Man and The Hulk who now dominate the world’s movie screens. Lee, also the creator of Avengers, Black Panther, and X-Men had started Marvel comics with Jack Kirby in 1961 with ‘Fantastic Four’. He also made cameo appearances in all of the Marvel movies.
Little did we know that the comic mogul also sketched out a superhero on the Indian front, and no it’s not Shaktimaan. Say hello to Chakra, The Invincible. Co-created by Sharad Devarajan and Gotham Chopra, Chakra tells the story of Raju Rai, a young Indian orphan living in Mumbai, who along with his mentor and guide Dr. Singh, is determined to use the power of science to unlock the secrets of human potential.
We have used the term ‘chakra’ to unlock the energies within us. The duo in this series develop a technological suit that allows him to weaponise all the mystical chakras in Raju’s body and like any superhero he must safeguard his identity hence develops his alter ego Chakra.
Chakra premiered in a Cartoon Network movie in 2013. It further had two sequels Chakra: The Rise of Infinitus and Chakra: The Revenge of Magnus Flux aired on Toonami (India) on September 25, 2016 and February 15, 2017 respectively.
