Keeping Your Head Towards North While Sleeping is Harming You

Sleep is one of the most vital parts of your daily activities and the direction in which you place your head plays a significant role in maintaining good health. Vaastu shastra forbids putting the head towards the north while sleeping. There is a Tamil proverb ‘Vaaraatha vaazhvu vanthaalum vadakke thalai vekkakudaathu’ which means you should not place your head in the north, even if you get good fortune. But putting your head towards the north is forbidden for a good reason. There is a lot of science to back it up.

You know that Earth is a giant magnet and that the human body has its magnetic field. When you sleep with your head pointing north, your body’s magnetic field becomes asymmetrical to that of Earth’s. This causes problems in your blood pressure, and your heart needs to work hard to overcome this. If you are old and your blood vessels are weak, you can even get a haemorrhage or paralytic stroke . In fact, when you position your body horizontally, you can immediately make out that your pulse rate drops. Plus, sleeping with your head facing the North can disrupt your blood circulation and lead to disturbed sleep and stress. So, if you sleep with your head facing the North in the night, don’t be surprised if you feel troubled and irritable. Sleep like a baby with these 4 simple breathing techniques.

You should sleep keeping your head in the South or the East direction instead. Sleeping on the West is also okay. According to Pain management specialist, Dr Anil Kulkarni, when you are sleeping, you should always lie down on the left side. Lying down on the left side helps reduce heartburn, so sleeping in this position is a total win-win. On the contrary, sleeping on the right worsens heartburn.
