The changes in lifestyle and exposure to chemicals and pollutants have made hair greying a common occurrence. However, pre-mature greying can be annoying and nightmarish.
Although colouring is a quick fix to this problem, it is not a sustainable solution. The other effective way of addressing the problem of pre-mature greying of hair is to go to the root of it (literally)! There are ample home remedies which have been used traditionally for ages. These treatments are not only effective, they are also completely natural and have minimal side effects.
Here is a list of 5 home remedies which can be used to keep pre-mature greying of hair at bay:
* HennaHenna works wonders against greying hair. Start off by soaking henna powder in a bowl of water and let it stay overnight.Next day, boil black tea leaves in water, letting them steep for a few minutes (ensure that you don’t steep it for too long). Set it aside to cool. Pour the henna paste over the tea leaves. Squeeze half a lemon into the mixture and stir until you get a thick paste. Apply this mixture onto your hair, using a hair applicator, carefully covering all greys. Let this mixture sit on your hair for about an hour and then, rinse it off with lukewarm water. Repeat this process once a month to see the paste work its magic.
* OnionGrate onions and squeeze the pulp to get the juice. Massage your scalp with this juice and let it sit on for about half an hour. Then, rinse it off with lukewarm water. If you find the smell of onion too pungent, you can add a few drops of essential oils like lavender, tea tree or lemongrass to get rid of the smell.
Applying onion juice regularly can help darken the roots of your hair.
* Curry Leaves Heat the curry leaves along with coconut oil until you see a black residue start to form. Make sure that the oil doesn’t smoke. Set this mixture aside to let it cool for a while. Once the oil has cooled down, massage your hair with this oil, right from the roots to the tips. Leave it on for an hour or two. Wash it off with a gentle (preferably sulphate-free) shampoo. Repeat this process 2 – 3 times in a week.
Curry leaves are rich in antioxidants like vitamin A, vitamin E, calcium, iron and copper, which can help restrict the greying and also help you attain silky smooth hair.
* CoffeeCoffee, particularly black coffee, can also help you resolve the problem of premature greying.
Brew a strong pot of coffee and set it aside to cool. Pour the coffee gently onto your hair and massage with your fingers.Let the coffee soak in for approximately 20 minutes. This will temporarily stain your hair dark brown. Rinse it off with cold water. Do not shampoo. Repeat this process about twice or thrice a week for best results.
* AmlaHeat Amla powder and add coconut oil to it after a while. Stir the mixture in the pan until the powder starts to char. Remember to cover your head and hair length with a shower cap to avoid staining your pillows. Rinse it off with lukewarm water in the morning.
