Moisturizing your dry skin might seem like a simple routine—just slather it on, rub it in, and you're good to go, right? Not quite! There's more to the science of moisturizing dry skin than you might think!
Typically, our skincare routine includes cleansing, toning, applying serum, and finishing with a good moisturizer. But it’s not just about the products themselves; the way you apply them makes a huge difference!
When applied correctly, moisturizer not only locks in moisture but also creates a protective barrier on the skin, helps fight signs of aging, and most importantly, prevents your skin from becoming dull or flaky.
A few small adjustments can make a world of difference, and you'll be amazed at how your skin responds.
Before we dive into the basic rules for moisturizing, there are a couple of things you should keep in mind.
The same moisturizer won't work for all seasons, so you’ll need to adjust it according to your skin’s changing needs. For example, in winter, opt for a rich, cream-based lotion, and in summer, switch to a lighter formula.
With that in mind, here are the steps for applying moisturizer the right way!
# Step 1:Choose the right moisturizer. Understand your skin type and pick a cream that suits it. For oily skin, opt for a moisturizer that seals in moisture without making your skin greasy. Also, choose one with SPF properties so you don’t need to apply two separate creams.
# Step 2:Cleanse your face. A proper skincare routine begins with removing the day's dirt and grime. Ensure your face wash doesn't strip away your skin's natural oils but removes impurities while maintaining its pH balance.
# Step 3:Gently pat your skin dry. Avoid rubbing your skin too harshly. Tugging and pulling can cause premature signs of aging. Leave your skin slightly damp, as this helps the moisturizer absorb better.
# Step 4:Tone your skin. A good toner will eliminate any leftover dirt and prepare your skin for better moisturizer absorption. A natural alternative is rose water—apply a few drops to a cotton ball and gently dab it on your face, allowing it to absorb naturally.
# Step 5:Take an appropriate amount of moisturizer in your palms and apply it in small dots on your chin, nose, forehead, and cheeks.
# Step 6:Using two fingers from each hand, start applying the moisturizer. Begin at the center of your forehead and gently work your way outwards and upwards. Do the same for your cheeks and nose.
# Step 7:Blend the cream into your skin with gentle, circular motions. Avoid pressing too hard or rubbing aggressively, as this can damage your skin and cause fine lines.
