Earlier in a wake of MeToo movement in India, Ira Trivedi had accused Chetan Bhagat of touching her inappropriately and trying to kiss her without consent. During that time, Chetan Bhagat and his family were into deep shock as the author also claimed that he had asked his wife to leave him post the allegations levelled against him. During his first appearance at a literature fest in New Delhi, he opened up about how he dealt with it and what his wife had to say about it.
At the fest, he was quoted saying how when he asked his wife to leave him, she said that they are Lord Shiva and Parvati and they were Adrhanaareshwar. He was also quoted as saying how it was a trying time for their family and that he saw a new aspect to his wife post the incident. He further explained how after that, he felt like an idiot talking to other women and that he did, in fact, go on to apologise to one of the accusers while denied the charges levelled by another woman.
Earlier, countering the harassment allegations, Chetan Bhagat hit back at Ira by sharing screenshots of the mail that Ira had sent to him back in 2013. He had written in the tweet, “So who wanted to kiss whom. @iratrivedi’s self-explanatory email from 2013 to me, especially last line, easily shows her claims from 2010 are false, and she knows this too. This mental harassment of me and my family has to stop. Please don’t harm a movement with #fakecharges #harassed”. MeToo movement in India, so far brought many renowned celebs like Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, Sajid Khan and others under the scanner.
