As monsoons drench the city in delight and fervor, they also bring to us mucky roads, wet, dirty feet, and delays in public transport leaving us in quite a dilemma on how to arrive at work looking presentable. Ideally, the clothes one wears should not matter at all. A person should be judged purely on his talent and ability. However, in a world where external appearances do matter, and are often considered as the definition of character and individuality, dressing right at work can be a tricky affair especially during the monsoons.
1. Choose a strong collapsible umbrella that will shield you from the rain yet fit into your bag.
2. Do away with leather shoes, instead opt for those colourful ballerina flats, jelly shoes, floaters or even crocs. Bright plastic flip-flops might look tacky in a professional environment so choose footwear with neutral shades and minimal design.
3. Wear light blended fabrics such as lycra or polyester as these clothes are wrinkle free and are easy to wash and dry. Avoid wearing light or pastel colored clothes since they tend to become transparent when wet and catch stains easily.
4. A classic trench coat teamed with a formal shirt and trouser is also a good bet for monsoons. While choosing a trouser, always go for dark colored cropped pantaloons.
5. If you prefer Indian formals, keep away from salwars and patialas; instead pair short kurtis with dark leggings or churidars. Substitute your long dupattas with soft cotton scarves as they are easy to manage and more likely to keep you warm. Stay away from traditional Bandhani or Rajasthani prints as they tend to run colour when wet. Always remember to keep a pair of spare clothes in your office closet in case of an emergency.
