Have a pair of shoes you love but messed with them too much? From scuff marks to stinky shoes, we’ve all gone through multiple shoe problems. Here are some tips on taking care of your shoes in easy and cheap ways.
* Tea BagsThe best way to get rid of stinky shoes is to leave tea bags in them. Unused tea bags of course! Adding tea bags in your smelly shoes helps remove the funky smell. You can also use aromatic pouches of lavender and herbs instead of tea. Spraying deodorizer or essential oils in them will give a temporary relief. Another good hack is to sprinkle baking soda in them and leave them overnight to absorb moisture and stink.
* Crusty BreadStale crusty bread acts like a softer version of sandpaper that helps brush away the dirt and particles on suede shoes. Rub in the area that is dirty leaving behind crumbs. Brush off the crumbs or let them fall on their own. And your shoes are brand new!
* Blow Dryer Got a new pair of shoes that are just a bit too tight? Maybe it’s over the bridge of your foot, or the toebox is a little tight. You could be between sizes and end up with a little tightness that is uncomfortable. Either way, don on the pair of socks and stuff your feet into the shoes. They’ll be snug but that’s okay. Run the blow dryer until you have the flexibility you want in the right places. Don’t use this trick on plastics or other materials that will melt with the heat.
* Nail Polish RemoverThe best way to get rid of scuff marks of patent heels or leather shoes is to use nail polish remover or acetone. Dab a cotton ball or swab on the area till the marks fade. You can also use petroleum jelly to clear away scuff marks. You may need to give your shoes the once-over with a damp cloth afterwards.
* VinegarTo get rid of water stains from real leather shoes and boots, pour cool, clean water into a medium-sized bowl. Add 2 to 4 drops of white vinegar into the bowl and mix well. Using a toothbrush dip it in this mixture and scrub on the water stains. Remove excess water from the shoes with a clean, dry towel and dry them overnight.
