Actor Irrfan Khan, best known for his roles in films like ‘Angrezi Medium’, ‘Hindi Medium’ and 'Maqbool' passed away on Wednesday. The actor had been unwell for a long time. Earlier this week, he was hospitalised after being diagnosed with colon infection. Many of the symptoms of colorectal cancer can also be caused by something that isn’t cancer, such as infection, hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome, or inflammatory bowel disease.When colorectal cancer does turn out to be the cause, symptoms often appear only after the cancer has grown or spread. That’s why it’s best to be tested for colorectal cancer before ever having any symptoms. Colorectal cancer that’s found early through screening – testing that’s done on people with no symptoms – might be easier to treat. Screening can even prevent some colorectal cancers from forming by finding and removing pre-cancerous growths called polyps.
Signs and symptoms of colon cancer include:* A persistent change in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool
* Rectal bleeding or blood in your stool
* Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain
* A feeling that your bowel doesn't empty completely
* Weakness or fatigue
* Unexplained weight loss
If you notice any persistent symptoms that worry you, make an appointment with your doctor.
Talk with your doctor about when to begin colon cancer screening. Guidelines generally recommend that colon cancer screenings begin around 50. Your doctor may recommend more frequent or earlier screening if you have other risk factors, such as a family history of the disease.
