The Himalayan RangeIn Sanskrit, Himalaya means snow encampment, seeing it feels the same way. The Himalayan range has over 100 peaks. Whose height is more than 7200 meters. Nanga Parbat and Namcha Barwa are considered to be west and east in this range. Mount Everest is the part of the Himalayan Range, which is the highest mountain in the world. But this part of the range comes in Nepal, not in India. The Himalayan range is also the outskirts of several large rivers, such as the Ganges, the Brahmaputra and the Indus. Due to this range, the weather in northern India is maintained.
The Eastern RangeThe Eastern Range is also known as the extension of the Himalayas because their texture is similar to that of the Himalayas. But this range is not as high as the Himalayas. They are also called Eastern Mountain Range. Its three parts are considered. This range covers all the eastern part of India, which is also called Seven Sisters State.
The Satpura and Vindhya RangeThe Vindhya Range runs parallel to the Satpura Range and forms part of Central India. Satpura is higher in both these ranges and is also the source of Tapti rivers along with Narmada. Both these ranges are in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra but some of them also come in Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh. Kalumar with 752 meters and Dupgarh Peak with 1350 meters are the highest points of Vindhya and Satpura. Pachmarhi hill station is on these hills and Kanha National Park too. If there is Amarkantak, then also Omkareshwar temple.
The Aravalli RangeConsidered India's oldest mountain range, this range is also considered to be the oldest mountain range in the world. Its width ranges from 10 kilometers to 100 kilometers. It spans 800 kilometers and covers Gujarat along with Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan. The highest point of this series is Guru Shikhar with 1722 meters. Mount Abu is also the only hill station in Rajasthan in this range.
Karakoram and Pir Panjal RangeKarakoram Range and Pir Panjal Range lies to the North-west and south of the Himalayan Range. A major part of the Karakoram Range lies under the disputed category of Indian and Pakistan and both countries have declared a claim over it.
Karakoram Range, with a length of 500km holds many largest peaks of Earth. K2, the second highest peak of the world, at 8,611m lies in the Karakoram Range. Hindu-Kush, an extension of the Karakoram Range runs in Afghanistan. Karakoram has the most glaciers excluding Polar Regions. The Siachen Glacier and The Biafo Glacier, which are world's 2nd and 3rd largest glaciers, are located in this range.The Pir Panjal Range is located in southern direction of Himalayas starting from Himachal Pradesh in India and running north-west towards Jammu & Kashmir and disputed area of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Western GhatsWestern Ghats is 1600m long mountain range that runs from Gujrat to Kanyakumari in south India.This mountain range is also called Sahyadri Mountains.It comprises the mountain range of Nilgiris, Anaimalai and Cardomom. Tapti River marks its beginning in Gujarat and then it runs parallel to Arabian Sea crossing states of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Anaimalai Hills with elevation of 2695 m in Kerala is highest peak of this range. Western Ghats is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and has great bio-diversity.
