Recipe- Street Style Potato Sagu For Dinner

Potato/Aloo Sagu also called as potato masala or poori masala is a very delicious and simple recipe made with potatoes.Bombay Sagu recipe for puri can be prepared in less than 30 minutes if you have boiled potatoes ready with you.

Potato/Bombay sagu recipe is more popular in South India especially in Karnataka and usually served with pooris or chapatis or dosa or rava idli. Roasted chana dal powder gives a unique taste to the sagu, so do not skip adding this.

Bombay saagu or Potato sagu and Poori is the very popular combination you see in every restaurant menu. Simple ingredients, very easy recipe is this potato sagu. No grinding required. Saagu can be prepared using mixed vegetables as well. Bombay Sagu goes well with chapati, rava idli, and set dosa.

Ingredients

2 medium boiled potatoes
1/2 cup peas (fresh or frozen)
1 medium tomato, finely chopped
1 medium tomato, finely chopped
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1 green chillies ,finely chopped
1 stalk curry leaves
2 tablespoon roasted chana dal(putani) or besan
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
1.5 cups water
2 teaspoons oil
2 tablespoon coriander leaves
juice of half lime
salt to taste
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon jeera(cumin) seeds
1 teaspoon split urad dal
1 teaspoon chana dal
pinch hing (asafoetida)

Method

* Wash and pressure cook potatoes for 2 whistles.

* Take 2 tbsp of roasted chana dal or roasted bengal gram or putani in a blender.Grind them into a fine powder.

* Keep the pan/kadai for heating and add 1 tablespoon of oil, once oil is hot add mustard seeds, cumin, urad dal, chana dal and fry it till dals become light brown.

* Then add green chillies, ginger, curry leaves and saute for 30 secs.

* Next add sliced onion and saute it for 2-3 minutes or till onions turn soft.

* Next add tomatoes and cook till the tomatoes turn soft.In this recipe i haven't added tomatoes.

* Add grounded roasted chana dal powder from step 2 and Mix it very well and saute for a minute.

* Add boiled & mashed potato ,peas and spices like turmeric powder ,coriander powder ,garam masala powder, salt and mix it well.

* Then add 1.5 cups of water, mix well and simmer teh potato sagu on medium flame for 3-4 minutes.Once done then turn of the gas.

* Now add coriander leaves, squeeze lemon juice and mix it well.

* Serve Potato Sagu with poori, chapati, dosa or idli.
