India's brightest festival is almost here. Markets have begun laying out their festive wares and families have started charting out their gift lists. Now is also usually the time many households finish the great big clean up.
If the thought has already begun to scare you, worry not. Here are some smart hacks that will help you clean out your house as quickly as you begin, so that you have a sparkling house ready before the festival of lights.
# Make SpaceBefore you dig your hands deep into the clean up ritual, designate an area in the house where you wish to keep all that you plan to get rid of. This makes disposal easier. If you let the clutter lie around your cleaned areas, chances are, they can go right back into the cupboards.
# Polish your brass ornamentsBrass is beautiful but tarnishes easily. Treat your brass idols, vases and lamps with a mixture of vinegar(½ cup), salt (1 teaspoon) and flour. Alternatively, you can use a chemical cleaner like Brasso.
# Clean out glass lampsRemove old candles and wicks from the candleholders. Use a knife or blade to carefully scrape off any residual wax sticking to the edges. Pour hot water into the holder and let it stand for a couple of hours. Any remaining wax will float to the top and can be removed easily. Use warm water and detergents to get rid of other stains. Dry the glassware by turning them upside down on tissue paper or cloth to let the water drain away.
# Cleaning the FloorClean the floors effectively with floor cleaners. You can use vacuum cleaners, sweepers, brooms and fiber clothes to clean the floors. For cleaning the bathroom floors, you can use the bathroom cleaners which are available in the market. Besides that, you can also sue baking soda.
# Clean the WardrobeStart with cleaning your wardrobes. Vacate it properly and then start cleaning your wardrobe. Change the paper or cloth if you have one on racks. Fold all of the clothes properly and arrange them in good order. If you come across old clothes that you have not used and you think you may not use them in future, you can simply donate it to someone who needs them. There are various NGOs working for underprivileged Children, call them and they can collect and distribute it. Make separate compartments in the wardrobe, you can install drawers here, and use up the blank spaces on the doors of the wardrobe.
