Recipe - Mouthwatering Indian Potato Pie

1 tablespoon oil
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
1/2 cup boiled peas (optional)
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves (chopped)

Optional:
Oil for frying or butter for baking.

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Dough


- In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.

- Add oil or melted butter and mix until the flour resembles crumbs.

- Gradually add water and knead into a smooth, pliable dough.

- Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.

Step 2: Make the Filling


- Heat oil in a pan on medium heat.

- Add cumin and mustard seeds; let them splutter.

- Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.

- Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook until fragrant.

- Add turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix well.

- Add the mashed potatoes and boiled peas (if using). Season with salt.

- Mix thoroughly and cook for 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat.

- Add fresh coriander leaves and let the filling cool.

Step 3: Assemble the Pie

- Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a small circle.

- Place a spoonful of the potato filling in the center of each circle.

- Fold the dough over to create a semi-circle and press the edges together. Use a fork to seal the edges for a decorative touch.

Step 4: Cook the Pie

For Frying:


- Heat oil in a deep pan.

- Fry the pies on medium heat until golden brown and crispy.

- Remove and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

For Baking:

- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

- Place the pies on a greased baking sheet. Brush them lightly with melted butter.
