Mango Shrikhand is a popular Indian dessert made with hung curd or strained yogurt, ripe mango pulp, sugar, and cardamom powder. It is a traditional Maharashtrian dessert, often served during festivals and special occasions. The dish has a creamy and silky texture with a sweet and tangy taste of mangoes, and a hint of aromatic cardamom flavor. Mango Shrikhand is not only delicious but also healthy. It is rich in protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients present in yogurt. Mangoes are also a great source of vitamins and antioxidants, which help to boost the immune system and promote good health. Here is a simple recipe to make it at home:
Ingredients 2 cups plain yogurt
1 cup ripe mango pulp
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
1 tablespoon chopped pistachios for garnish
Method- Start by straining the yogurt in a cheesecloth for about 2-3 hours, to remove the excess water content and to make it thick and creamy.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the strained yogurt, mango pulp, powdered sugar, and cardamom powder.
- Mix well until the sugar dissolves completely and everything is well combined.
- Refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes or until chilled.
- Once chilled, remove it from the refrigerator and give it a good mix.
- Spoon the Mango Shrikhand into serving bowls or glasses.
- Garnish with chopped pistachios on top.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
Note: You can adjust the sweetness of the shrikhand according to your preference by adding more or less sugar. You can also add some saffron strands for extra flavor and color.
