Ingredients1 pound of shredded phyllo dough (kataifi)
1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
1 pound of unsalted mozzarella cheese, grated
1 pound of unsalted ricotta cheese
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of water
1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon of orange blossom water (optional)
1/4 cup of chopped pistachios (optional)
Method- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the grated mozzarella cheese and ricotta cheese.
- In a separate bowl, mix the sugar, water, lemon juice, and orange blossom water (if using) to make the syrup. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with melted butter.
- Take the shredded phyllo dough and spread it evenly on the bottom of the pan. Drizzle the melted butter over the dough.
- Spread the cheese mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Take the remaining phyllo dough and sprinkle it over the cheese mixture, creating a second layer.
- Drizzle the remaining melted butter over the top layer of phyllo dough.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the kunafa turns golden brown.
