Hariyali Chicken is a popular North Indian dish that is made with succulent pieces of chicken that are marinated in a vibrant green marinade made with fresh coriander, mint leaves, green chillies, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, and yogurt. The marinade gives the chicken a beautiful green color and imparts a delicious flavor to the dish.
Ingredients1 kg boneless chicken pieces
1 cup fresh coriander leaves
1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
3-4 green chillies
5-6 garlic cloves
1-inch piece of ginger
Juice of 1 lemon
1 cup yogurt
Salt to taste
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 onions, finely chopped
2 tbsp oil
Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
Method- Clean and wash the chicken pieces and make deep incisions on them.
- In a blender, blend together coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chillies, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, yogurt, and salt to make a smooth green marinade.
- Marinate the chicken pieces in the marinade for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and chopped onions. Saute the onions till they turn golden brown.
- Add the marinated chicken pieces and cook them on medium heat till they are tender and cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
