Masala puri is a very famous street food in many parts of India. It is prepared in different styles in different parts of our country based on taste preferences of the people. Here we have focused on Chennai style masala puri, lets start with the detailed recipe now.
Ingredients
1.5 cups peas, soaked overnight
2 small size potatoes
2 cups water
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp oil
Cinnamon, Small piece
2 cloves
1 onion, chopped
2 to 3 green chillies
1 inch ginger, roughly chopped
5 cloves garlic
1 tomato, roughly chopped
1 tsp chilli powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1.5 tsp garam masala powder
1 tsp chaat masala
Salt to taste
Water as required
Method* Firstly, soak dried green peas for 8 hours or overnight
* In a pressure cooker add soaked green peas, potato, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp oil and leave for 4 whistles in medium flame
* Then mash the peas and potatoes well and keep aside
* To prepare a masala paste, take a large pan and heat 3 tsp oil, 1 onion, sauté well
* Add 1 tomato, 2 green chilli, 1 inch ginger and 5 garlic cloves and saute
* Once it cools down, blend into smooth paste
* In a same pan pour the grinded paste and mashed peas and potatoes, add some water
* Then add chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, chaat masala, salt and mix well
* Cook this mixture for 20 minutes
* You can also add some water to adjust consistency during cooking
* In a serving plate, crush the puris and pour the masala gravy sufficiently over puri
* Add some onions, tomato and sprinkle chaat masala and dry mango powder finally garnish with some sev and coriander leaves
* Masala Puri is ready
