What is the first word you learned in school? ‘A for apple!’ I am sure – so did I.Remember Newton, Beatles, Steve Jobs and how an ordinary apple revolutionized their minds. Who has not heard the adage “An Apple a day keeps the doctor away.” This delicious fruit is also a good source of vitamins. Research has shown that adults who eat apples regularly have smaller waistlines, less abdominal fat, and lower blood pressure.
Which means that if you do not want an apple figure, eat an apple. with so many benefits how can we not include apples in our diet. Apple pie is one of the simplest and most amazing dishes that I have ever eaten. So when I thought about cooking something sweet, the first dish that came to my mind was Apple pie. Making Apple pie at home is much easier than you think. This is an easy Apple pie recipe which you can make with your kids.
IngredientsFor the pastry:1 ½ cup plain flour
¼ cup powdered sugar
¾ cup butter
cold water
For the filling:2 medium size Apples
3 tbsp Sugar
½ cup water
½ tsp Cinnamon powder
½ tsp lemon juice(optional)
MethodTo prepare the pastry:
- Sift the flour into a mixing bowl, add powdered sugar and rub in the butter using your fingertips till it resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add some cold water and gently knead it into a firm dough. Cover it and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
To make the filling:
- Core the Apples and cut into very small pieces. Add sugar and water and let it cook on slow flame for 15-20 minutes till the apples are soft.
- For flavor add cinnamon powder. If apples are too sweet you can add lemon juice to enhance its taste.
- Divide dough into two equal portions. Roll out the pastry to a thickness of 4-5mm and use it to line the base and sides of a greased baking dish.
- Fill the pie filling evenly into the baking dish. Roll out the second portion into a circle and cut thin strips to cover the filling.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 20-25 minutes or till golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
