Gingerbread is the term used for baked goodies which consist of few spices like ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg along with brown sugar and molasses. Whether it is gingerbread man cookies, gingersnaps or gingerbread cake, there are so many options.
This recipe is eggless and tastes absolutely delicious with a glass of wine. Molasses gives a very nice smoky flavors to the cake.
Ingredients1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
4 tablespoon unsalted butter
2/3 cup dark brown sugar
2/3 cup molasses
2/3 cup boiling water
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Method* Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Grease a 9? square cake tin and dust it with flour.
* In a bowl whisk flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
* In another bowl add boiling water, butter, brown sugar, buttermilk, and molasses. Mix till butter melts.
* Now mix the wet ingredients with dry and whisk until well combined.
* Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35 minutes or until done.
* Cool the cake completely before slicing.
