Chana dal chutney recipe a quick to make sidedish for idli dosa pongal etc.Chana dal chutney or kadalai paruppu chutney as we call in tamil is one of my recent tries that I want to share here.I always look for more chutney recipes to pair up with idli dosa and this I saw in a book long back which I noted down and kept.
Ingredients3 tbsp chana dal
2 nos red chillies
1 no big onion(chopped roughly)
1 no small tomato(chopped roughly)
1 and 1/2 tsp oil
a tiny pinch hing
salt to taste
water as needed
To Temper1/2 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
a sprig curry leaves
Method* Heat oil in a pan - add chana dal and red chillies, fry until the dal turns golden brown.Remove and set aside.
* Now in the same pan add onion and tomato, saute until tomatoes turn mushy and raw smell leaves.
* Remove from flame and transfer the roasted ingredients to a mixer jar.Add required salt and water , grind to a semi fine paste.
* Heat oil in a separate kadai, add mustard seeds and curry leaves, let it splutter.Now add the tempering to the chutney.Mix well.
* Serve with idli dosa etc.
