Recipe- South Indian Style Masala Poha

Masala Poha is a mild spicy and filling dish made by cooking poha with masala powders, tempered onions and veggies. Masala poha could be relished as snack or as a meal for breakfast / dinner.

Ingredients

1 cup poha thick
1/2 cup mixed vegetables
1/4 cup big onion chopped finely
1 tbsp coriander leaves chopped finely
1 no green chilli slitted
salt to taste
water as needed

Spice Powders

1/8 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1/4 tsp roasted jeera powder

Method

- Take a cup of poha soak in water for 5 mins. I used red poha, which was thick. Rinse well and drain water and set aside.

- Heat oil in a pan - add mustard seeds, jeera let it crackle then add slit green chilli.

- Add onion and saute till transparent, then add cut vegetables,saute for a minute.

- Then add all the spice powders along with salt.

- Saute well for 5 mins in low flame, then add 1/4 cup water and let it cook.

- Cook covered for few mins until veggies turn soft but not too mushy.When it still slightly moist add poha.

- Toss well until the masalas coat well.Add chopped coriander leaves, mix well and switch off.

- Serve Masala Poha hot with curd!
