Indian style Aloo Tikki Burger – Spicy potato patties sandwiched between homemade burger buns with cilantro mint chutney and tomato chili ketchup!
To my aloo tikki patties, I also added some peas and carrots. This is optional but I recommend it. I also use some poha in my tikks which keeps them crispy. What also makes them crispy is panko bread crumbs! I highly recommend panko bread crumbs, they are perfect in this recipe. Also since this is Indian style burger, I used tomato chili ketchup and my favorite cilantro chutney on the buns. If you are fond of mayonnaise, you can definitely use that as a spread. And don’t forget little sprinkle of chat masala on top!
Ingredients5 burger buns
1 large tomato sliced
1 large onion sliced
4-5 lettuce leaves
5 cheese slices [I used pepper jack cheese]

4 tablespoons cilantro mint chutney
chat masala to sprinkle

1 medium carrot [around 1/4 cup chopped carrot]
1/2 cup green peas
1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic [from 3-4 garlic pods]
1/2 teaspoon finely chopped ginger
1 finely chopped green chili
1 cup bread crumbs
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup poha soaked in 1-2 tablespoons of water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
3 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons vegetable oil divided
Spices1/2 teaspoon chat masala
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
1/4 teaspoon black salt [kala namak]
1/4 teaspoon dried mango powder [amchur]
1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder [optional]
Method* Soak poha in 1-2 tablespoons of water for 5 minutes. Set aside.
* Meanwhile add 2 teaspoons oil to a pan on medium heat.
* Once oil is hot, add chopped onions and cook for a minute.
* Add chopped ginger, garlic and green chili and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
* Add chopped carrots and cook for 1-2 minutes. It should remain crunchy.
* Now add all the spices - chat masala, dried oregano, red chili powder, black salt, dried mango powder and garam masala powder. Also add the salt and cook for a minute.
* Then add mashed potatoes, green peas, soaked poha and cornstarch to the pan.
* Mix till everything is well combined and remove pan from heat. At this point check seasoning and adjust accordingly. You might want to add more salt on red chili powder depending on taste.
* Now make 5 equal sized patties from that potato mixture. You can get more patties if you make smaller ones.
* Meanwhile heat 2-3 tablespoons oil in a pan on medium heat.
* Take panko bread crumbs in a plate and take 1 of the patties and coat it with the crumbs from both the sides.
* Once the oil is hot, add the bread crumb coated tikki to the pan. Repeat the same process with all the remaining tikkis.
* Cook till each side of the tikki turns golden brown in color, around 2-3 minutes each side. Once all tikkis are cooked, remove from pan and place them on a kitchen towel.
* To assemble the burger, cut burger buns into half. You can toast them lightly if you want.
* Apply tomato chili ketchup on half of the bun and cilantro mint chutney on the other half.
* Place lettuce, sliced onion, tomato on one half of the bun.
* Meanwhile place the tikki on the pan, once it gets little hot place cheese slice on top. Let it be like that for a like a minute or till cheese melts slightly.
* Place the tikki (with the slightly melted cheese) on top of the onion, tomato, lettuce. Sprinkle some chat masala.
* Place the other half of the bun on top and enjoy your aloo tikki burger.
