Papaya halwa is a super delicious sweet dish. If you like carrot halwa then you will definitely enjoy this papita ka halwa. You can not find fresh carrot during summer days. But you can easily find fresh half-ripe or ripe papaya in the local market during the summer season. If it is not fresh then it won’t be as flavorful & mouthwatering. The best part of this papaya halwa is that you do not need milk to prepare this. Yes, without milk you can make this wonderful halwa at home.
Ingredients
1 medium size papita/papaya
100 gm sugar
3 cardamoms/ilaichi
2 bay leaves
Handful cashew nuts
Handful raisins/kishmish
1 teaspoon finely chopped almonds
½ cup water
⅓ cup ghee (you can use any vegetable oil too)
Method- Heat ghee in a cooking pot and add crushed cardamoms & bay leaves
- Remove the fried bay leaves once it started nice aroma
- Now add finely chopped or grated ripe/half-ripe papaya and stir for next 2 minutes
- Then pour water and cover it with a lid and cook over a low flame for next 5 -7 minutes
- Once water is almost dried up then add sugar and stir to mix
- Mash with a hand masher and add small pieces of cashew nuts and raisins
- Cook till halwa becomes dry & sticky
- Take it a small bowl & spread finely chopped almonds over halwa (optional)
