Very few of us take time periodically to assess our personal progress. At least once a year, it is good idea to pause and take a thorough look at oneself. It helps you knowing your positive and negative aspects of development and there by an occasion for improvement. It is very interesting to answer a regular questionnaire at the end of every year and know your shortcomingsand take steps upon their improvement.
This type of assessment helps you to recognize your achievements also and make plans to further them.
The following points should be the focus of your attention for the assessment :
* How much improvement have I made in my professional abilities ? How much have I learnt from my seniors and how far am I able to do things better ?
* How many important new people have I come in contact and how have I been able to present before them ?
* Have I been able to broaden my friends circle and how many new people have I got to know this year ?
* Have I ceased relations with an associate long known to me ? Was it unavoidable ? How has it affected my field of concern ?
* Is my reputation as good or better than it was a yea before ? What events have affected my reputation most ?
* Have I learnt any new skills during the past year ? If so, have I handled them efficiently ?
* Has my judgement about things , taking instant decisions and tackling improved during the last year ? If so, how has it improved my performance ?
* Have I been able to face any new challenges effectively during the past year ? What lessons did I learn from them ?
* Have I been able to exercise better self- control in alarming situations than before ?
* Have I been to achieve some such success this year which can be called a milestone ? If so, what are it’s implications ?
While trying to find answers to question s like these and many more you can have a suitable assessment about yourself. It can automatically make you conscious about your failings and achievements and prompt you to make amends if any.
Great people are very particular about their personal assessment. They keep their eyes and ears open to hear what people say about them . Common people ignore this activity and suffer too much . Being unconscious about failings and mistakes hampers your future development and the roads to success are blocked. Mistakes get repeated and achievements ignored. Self- assessment is a tool quite appropriate to go smoothly ahead in development . It is an excellent way to guarantee consistent personal growth.
