Asaram Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Raping Minor in 2013

The Jodhpur Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Court sentenced self-styled godman Asaram to life imprisonment for raping a minor in 2013. Two other accused sentenced to 20 years in jail. The three accused, including Asaram have been convicted for raping a 16-year-old girl in an ashram. Two other accused have been acquitted by Jodhpur Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Court in a rape case. The judgement in the case was pronounced inside the Jodhpur Central Jail. Earlier, Jodhpur Court dismissed the petition seeking entry of media persons in Central Jail of Jodhpur for the coverage of Asaram Bapu rape case judgment.

Security was stepped up today in Jodhpur where prohibitory orders have already been clamped ahead of the verdict. Security has also been beefed up outside Asaram rape case victim’s residence. The Union Home Ministry had reportedly asked Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana to tighten security and deploy additional forces. Asaram unsuccessfully moved 12 bail applications, of which six were rejected by the trial court, three by the Rajasthan high court and three by the Supreme Court.
