Ganesh Chaturthi 2018- This Festival Go Green With Clay Idols

This Ganesh Chathurthi, many Chennaiites are going green. They are getting idols made of clay that have seeds inside them. And instead of immersing the clay idols in water, the Ganeshas are placed inside pots and watered to let the seeds grow.

At NGO Sevalaya in Kasuva village, students are involved in making Ganesha idols with clay, vermicompost and vegetable or Tulsi seeds. “Plain clay wont let the plants grow hence we are mixing the compost that we ourselves prepare. Working with clay has been a lot of fun,” said Rajesh, a class XI student, who does craft work including making wire bags and paper flowers.

Sevalaya will home deliver Ganesha idols till September 12 and each of its idols costs Rs. 200.
