As part of the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Southern Naval Command headquartered in the city will allow the public to visit warships Sutlej and Sujata on July 20 and 21 at the Mattancherry Wharf, berth Q2 of Cochin Port.
Entry is possible with a valid government identity proof, without mobile phones and cameras. Students from selected schools in the city are hosted on naval ships and at the naval air station Garuda inside the naval base on July 20.
On July 26, the Kargil Vijay Diwas, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the War Memorial inside naval base to honour the martyrs of the Kargil War.
There will also be two walkathons for all naval personnel, families and defence civilians at INS Dronacharya, Fort Kochi and at the naval base on July 21 and 23.
A coastal awareness campaign will be conducted for the fishing community in Malappuram district on July 24 and 25.
At Navy Children School, Kochi, a host of activities such as painting, debate, dramatics and poetry recitation competitions, motivational lectures by serving and retired military officers, screening of documentary and movie on the Kargil War are being held in connection with the day.
