Protesters in Mumbai block traffic in Thane, bus services from Airoli to Vashi stopped

The bandh in Mumbai began on Wednesday and sporadic incidents of violence and inconvenience to Mumbaikars are being reported. According to reports, traffic has been blocked by protesters in Thane. Private cabs and autos are apparently being stopped from going ahead in Kandivali.

According to ANI, protesters pelted stones on two Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses near Navi Mumbai’s Ghansoli this morning. BEST bus services from Airoli to Vashi have been completely stopped today in the light of Maharashtra bandh.

The protests are taking place over the death of 27-year-old Kakasaheb Shinde, a protester, who jumped into the Godavari river near Aurangabad over his demand for reservations and subsequently drowned.

As the stir for reservation in jobs and education intensified, the Maratha Kranti Morcha, which is spearheading the agitation, took its battle to Mumbai where it has called for the shutdown. The Sakal Maratha Samaj has called for a ‘bandh’ today in the city, in Thane, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, and Palghar.
