Google has officially begun the rollout of Android 15 for Pixel devices, introducing a host of new features designed to enhance safety, privacy, and user experience. This update is being made available to eligible Pixel phones and tablets.
One of the key highlights of Android 15 is the introduction of a private space for apps. This feature is ideal for users who wish to keep certain applications—such as social media, dating, or banking apps—confidential. Apps placed in this private space are entirely concealed from recent apps, notifications, and device settings. Accessing these apps requires additional authentication, and users can even hide the private space's existence. This adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that sensitive apps remain completely out of sight.
For foldable phones and tablets, Android 15 significantly improves multitasking. Users can now pin and unpin the taskbar, providing quick access to their favorite apps. Additionally, a new app pairing feature allows users to link two frequently used apps, such as a notes app and a browser, enabling access via a single icon. This enhancement facilitates easier use of both apps simultaneously on larger screens.
Theft Detection LockA notable new feature is the Theft Detection Lock, which benefits a wide range of Android users beyond those on the latest OS. This functionality employs AI to determine if your phone has been stolen, automatically locking it to safeguard your information. Another valuable feature, Remote Lock, allows users to lock their phones using another Android device, their phone number, and a simple security check. This means that if your phone goes missing, you have multiple options to protect your data. Google states that most devices running Android 10 or newer will receive these features, with some users already having access.
Additional FeaturesThe update also introduces the latest October Pixel feature drop, which includes Night Sight for Instagram to enhance low-light photography and new controls for the Audio Magic Eraser tool to eliminate unwanted sounds from videos. In the coming weeks, Google plans to roll out a feature that simplifies media transfers between a Pixel Tablet and a Pixel phone—just hold the devices close together to move your media.
