Surprising Camera Update Expected for the Google Pixel 9a

The Pixel 9a, Google's upcoming mid-range smartphone, is anticipated to launch in early 2025. Recent rumors suggest that this new device will feature a significant camera upgrade. Unlike its predecessor, the Pixel 8a, which has a 64-megapixel main camera, the Pixel 9a is expected to include a new primary sensor, although it will likely keep the same 13-megapixel selfie camera as before. Additionally, it is rumored to introduce the 'Add Me' feature.

According to a report from Android Headlines, the Pixel 9a will feature a 48-megapixel primary camera. While this might appear to be a downgrade from the 64-megapixel camera in the Pixel 7a and Pixel 8a, it is said that the Pixel 9a's camera is the same 48-megapixel sensor found in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Despite the lower resolution, the new camera is expected to deliver improved photo quality due to its larger aperture.

The report also indicates that the Pixel 9a will have a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 13-megapixel selfie shooter, just like its predecessor. Additionally, it is expected to feature Google's new 'Add Me' camera function, which was introduced with the Pixel 9 series earlier this year. This AI-driven feature allows users to take group photos without excluding the designated photographer.

Expected Specifications of the Pixel 9a

The Pixel 9a is set to launch earlier than usual, with pre-orders beginning in mid-March next year. The upcoming model is anticipated to be slightly taller and wider than the Pixel 8a, measuring approximately 154.7 x 73.2 x 8.9mm. It is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display and may have a flat camera module on the back.

Previous leaks suggest that the Google Pixel 9a will be offered in four color options: porcelain (white), iris (bluish purple), obsidian (black), and peony (pink). It is likely to run on Android 15 and be powered by the Tensor G4 processor, with Google promising seven years of Android updates for this new device.
