Dhanteras is the day for shopping. Gearing up for Diwali and on account of having an auspicious year ahead, people buy gold, silver and utensils on this day.
But did you know there is an avid list of things that should not be purchased on this day? Belief has it that if you purchase and bring home these certain things on Dhanteras, which is counted as the first day of the Diwali, you will be bringing in bad luck instead of good.
Here's a quick list of things you should uncheck from your shopping list this Dhanteras:
* Iron
Customs say that one should not bring home products made of iron on Dhanteras. But if you are particular about fetching an iron utensil, perhaps buy it a day before? We are not propagating superstition, just that if you believe in good luck coming your way on purchasing certain things, why take risk when it comes to bad luck?
* Steel
The ritual of buying steel utensils on Dhanteras is widespread. Since steel is another form of iron, it is said that one should avoid steel utensils and instead go for copper or bronze.
* Empty pitchers/ utensils
Now, no one is going to sell you bowls and kadhais filled with food at a utensil store. So, if you are believer, fill your empty utensils with water before taking it inside your house.
* Sharp objects
You sould give knives, scissors, and other sharp objects a miss on Dhanteras shopping spree if you can.
* Cars
Many families bring home cars on Dhanteras since it is considered an auspicious day. But belief has it that one should make the payment a day before or not on Dhanteras.
