Blackheads, also known as open comedones, could be unsightly and could irritate the person suffering from it. Blackhead occurs as a result of hair follicle’s orifice becoming clogged with dirt and sebum. The clog could then oxidize and turn black.
Blackheads are common on the face. However, they could occur on the your chest, arms, neck, shoulders, and back.
Factors that can increase the likelihood of a blackhead occurrence include hormonal changes, stress, improper skin care, excess use of makeup and genetic makeup.
Mint Juice and Turmeric
Turmeric is a spice with very potent healing properties. Its active ingredient, cucurmin, has antimicrobial properties that fights harmful organisms on the skin. Turmeric is also an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant spice. This helps it improve the overall facial skin texture. Mint juice cools the skin. Apply a pasty mixture of turmeric and mint juice to the face for 20 minutes. Rinse thereafter.
Clay Mask Therapy
Clay mask helps in absorbing dirt and other impurities from the face leaving your skin fresh and you pores open. Bentonite clay, especially, has antibacterial properties which help in getting rid of blackheads. Make a clay mask paste with clay powder and water. Apply, evenly, throughout the face. Leave on face for 10 minutes. Rinse and moisture face.
Potato
Potatoes are good for removing impurities from the face. This makes it an effective home remedy for blackheads. Apply a mixture of mashed potato and honey to the face. Leave for 15 minutes and rinse off.
Honey and Carrot
Honey has antibacterial properties that kills bacteria from the affected blackhead area. Carrot is rich in antioxidants and vitamin A for a healthy skin tone. This makes this mixture good for getting rid of blackheads, pimples and whiteheads. Apply a pasty mixture of honey and carrot to facial skin for 10 minutes. Rinse off thereafter.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider vinegar has multiple cleansing and antimicrobial properties. ACV is capable of killing bacteria present in the skin (antibacterial property) and cleanses the pores from impurities (cleansing property). Apply ACV to the face, and leave to dry, for 10 minutes. Rinse face with water. Dilute with water if you have a sensitive skin.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera has potent healing powers. Aloe vera soothes, cleanses and heals the skin. It also stabilizes facial oil production. These makes aloe vera potent for skin ailments such as acne, blackheads, and whiteheads. Apply the inner gel of aloe vera to the face. Leave for 30 minutes. Rinse off.
Shelled Almonds
Crushed shelled almonds can be used as facial scrub to remove facial impurities and dead cells. Make a coarse paste of crushed almond and honey. Gently massage, in circular motion, on face for 5-10 minutes. Rinse off with water and moisturize.
Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated to make it more porous. This increased porosity enables it absorb more dirt and impurities when applied to the face. It works really well when mixed with bentonite clay. Make a paste of bentonite clay and activated charcoal. Apply to the face. Leave for 10 minutes. Rinse and moisturize face.
Green Tea
Green tea absorbs impurities from the skin. It is also rich in antioxidants which wards off harmful free radicals. Thus making the skin glow. Make a paste of tea and water. Apply to face for 20 minutes. Rinse and moisturize face.
Lemon Juice and Salt
Lemon has antioxidants that improves the texture of the texture of the skin. Lemon also removes impurities and tightens the skin pores. Salt is a good skin exfoliant. Apply the mixture to the affected blackhead area and gently massage for 5-10 minutes. Rinse and moisturize skin.
Baking Soda
Baking soda has exfoliating, antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is an effective way to get rid of pimples and blackheads. Mix baking soda with water. Apply to affected area for 15 minutes. Rinse and moisturize skin.
