# OATMEAL
We all are very well aware of the amazing health benefits that this warm bowl of whole grain power packed meal offers us in the breakfast. But did you know this breakfast superfood also boasts beauty benefits? Yes, not only is it good to eat, it’s amazing to bathe in—especially during winter. Oatmeal contains both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, therefore ideal for sensitive skin and to treat a variety of skin disorders like sunburn, rashes, eczema, dry skin etc. Oats help keep pores free of impurities as they contain natural cleansers. They are full of vitamins, minerals, lipids and proteins that help skin maintain its natural moisture barrier.
Take 1 cup of uncooked oats, let them stand in hot water for 5 minutes and add a few drops of lavender oil in it. Add them under running water to your bath tub. Soak in this aromatherapy solution for 15 to 30 minutes. The oatmeal will cleanses, caresses your body and make it feel brand new while the lavender produces a calming, soothing scent.
# HONEY
This gooey substance attracts and retains moisture. Honey, especially raw or unpasteurized is a natural ingredient to use on skin. It’s an antibacterial substance that helps prevent infections and heal minor skin abrasions. It’s full of antioxidants, which are good for wrinkles and aging skin. It acts as a great moisturiser that clarifies and soothes skin irritation and blemishes.
You must have heard of mesmerising beauty queen, Cleopatra. Honey was her secret beauty weapon. She used to take bath in honey and milk. Combine half cup of honey with 2 cups of full fat milk and mix few drops of essential oil in it. Add this to your warm tub, sit back and enjoy your natural beauty bath. Lactic acid in milk is very exfoliating. Honey is softening, moisturising and all around beautifying.
# EPSOM SALT
This bath time ingredient is not actually a salt but a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. When we feel stressed out, level of magnesium often gets depleted from our body. Epsom salt bath in warm water when get absorbed through the skin, helps to replenish magnesium levels in the body as your body actually soaks up the magnesium in epsom salts when you bathe in it.
Magnesium plays a number of roles in the body including regulating the activity of over 325 enzymes, reducing inflammation, helping muscles and nerves to relax, soothing sore muscles and regulating blood pressure. It regenerates and heals skin cells. Sulfates help improve the absorption of nutrients, flush toxins, and help ease migraine headaches.
Add 1 to 2 cups of Epsom salt to warm water for about five minutes before you hop in and soak. Drop in 10-20 drops of your favourite essential oil ( peppermint, eucalyptus or lavender ) in it. Stir well till all the ingredients evenly distribute. Relax in it, this will ease your pain and raise your spirit.
# BAKING SODA
Chemically known as sodium bicarbonate, baking soda is quite inexpensive and found in almost every household. Apart from ingesting it in the form of cakes and breads, you can also make baking soda a key ingredient into your beauty bath. It makes a great detox bath to get deep within the pores.
Since this may lead to a little case of dehydration, be sure to drink water before and after your detox.
For a relaxing end to a long stressful day, take half cup of baking soda. To this add 2 spoonful of lemon juice and 6 drops of essential oil of your choice. Mix all these ingredients and shape into small balls. Baking soda in these balls make them fizz when they are dropped in water. This will neutralize acids on the skin and help wash away oil and perspiration while you soak. In this way, you can enjoy a fizzing spa experience in the comfort of your home.
# ROSE
This beautiful fragrant flower has several uses apart from using it to woo your beloved. Rose petals contain healing and therapeutic benefits that can calm your mind and soothe your skin. They are great source of vitamin C and contain antioxidants that moisturise, hydrate the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It has natural anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that keep acne and redness at bay.
Soaking in a soothing rose bath will transform your bath into a revitalizing and invigorating experience. Add 6 drops of rose essential oil in 1 cup of powdered milk. Mix it into a warm bath water and drop one fourth cup of dried rose petals in it. Now relax in it and feel a little bit of heaven right there in your bath tub.
