5 Habits You Need To Adopt To Keep Your Skin Safe

Did you know that some seemingly-innocent lifestyle habits actually do more to harm skin than help it? Plus, they can even prematurely age your skin. Here are five good beauty habits to incorporate into your routine to maintain youthful, healthy skin – in addition to feeding your skin.

* Change Pillow Case Frequently

An unwashed pillowcase is a breeding ground for sweat, makeup particles, hair products, oil, and bacteria. All of those irritants are making contact with your skin when you sleep. As a result, your skin gets clogged and becomes inflamed, leading to acne and aged-looking skin.

To prevent this, launder your pillowcases anywhere from every three days to once a week. Flip the pillow onto the “new” side nightly. Purchase new pillows every six months. Also, wash your face with an all-natural, organic and non-toxic cleanser every night to minimize the dirt and oils that are transferred to your pillowcase. Additionally, you can make a few more swaps for better beauty sleep.

* Use Fresh, Gentle Washcloths

Do you use a washcloth with your facial cleanser? If you’re not using the right kind, you could be causing irritation to your skin. Choose a baby washcloth, which is softer. Always select a fresh washcloth each time because an old, damp washcloth attracts bacterial growth.

Gently scrub your face, using circular motions to clean. When you dry, simply pat your skin with a clean washcloth or let it air-dry.

* Avoid Hair Products From Getting on Face

Many hair products are loaded with toxic ingredients that are harmful to facial skin. Limit contact with these products by tilting your head back when washing and conditioning. You should also wash your face last while in the shower to cleanse away any harmful residue from hair products.

* Take Short and Low Temperature Shower

There’s nothing more relaxing after a long day’s work than a steamy shower. However, making the water too hot and extending your shower for too long can dry out your skin by stripping the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, of its essential oils. If you want the effect of a steamy shower without the skin damage, turn the heat up before you step in. Then, lower the temperature once you start showering.

* Remove Makeup Before Sleeping

As you sleep, the body recovers and heals-- your skin included. Removing your makeup before bed as part of your skin care routine allows the skin to breathe and maintain its natural tone. When makeup is left on overnight, it inhibits this recovery, holding on to free radicals and causing fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, it leaves your skin looking dull and less vibrant.
