As if changing temperatures weren’t depressing enough, the appearance of your dull skin is yet another added problem. But it would be wrong to let alone blame the weather for your skin to look dull. Because, may be you aren’t taking care of your skin the right way! Regardless of what weather it is or what the temperature is around you, these 5 things could be the reason to your appearing dull.
You aren’t exfoliating
If you wash your face twice a day, great! But there’s a very crucial step you need to add, exfoliation! Dryness can make you skin appear dull. Exfoliating helps to create a fresh canvas that allows products to penetrate better. Just remember to keep the process gentle on your skin to avoid causing inflammation or irritation.
You don’t moisturize
Remember, when you are washing your face you are ripping it off from it’s natural oils! Using a moisturizer will fill in for it by adding lipids, the natural fats of the skin, which seal up the gaps between the skin cells, presenting a smooth, reflective surface. Use moisturizers with ingredients like ceramides, which help repair skin barrier function and improve water retention, and hyaluronic acid, which plumps up skin cells by attracting water to surrounding tissues.
Your skin is dehydrated
Most of us think that dehydration is a short term process and think that it can be solved just by drinking a glass of water. Well, only if it could be that simple. Skin dehydration should be viewed as a long term problem and if you constantly fail to get your skin the water it needs, it can have lasting results. So if you don’t want wrinkles, drink up.
You are super stressed
If you having been doing all right so far, maybe it’s less about what’s going on in your body and more about what’s going on in your brain! Stress plays a large role in brilliance of your skin. It causes an increase in cortisol, which can affect blood flow to the skin and skin repair. Whatever deadline, argument or frustration it is you’re holding onto could be what’s standing between you and lustrous skin!
You need more sleep
Anything that keeps you up at night is getting in the way of your best skin. Sleep is the body’s restorative time, when your skin cells repair themselves and regenerate. If that period is shortened or altered, skin cells cannot perform at their optimum, leading to circulatory changes including dark eye circles, pallor, dry, flaky, less hydrated skin, and changes in oil production and skin cell exfoliation. One more reason for you to go to bed early!
