Every girl dreams to have pink, smooth and soft lips. But as the weather gets colder and harsher, your lips become dry, chapped and dull. Plus, the skin on your lips is very thin and has no oil glands to prevent them chapping, so you need to take extra care.
Taking care of your lips properly during winter is not that hard. All you need to do is just follow few easy steps.
# Hydrate from within
What goes inside reflects outside! Dehydration can affect your lips, so you must ensure you hydrate them from within. Maintain a proper diet and drink about 8 to 10 glasses of water every day. Eat food which is rich in vitamin A and vitamin C as this would help to repair the skin tissues and increase collagen production to make your lips more supple.
# Use DIY masks to moisturise your lips
Homemade moisturising masks are a great way to moisturise your lips. A variety of lip masks can be made from common ingredients found in your kitchen, such as olive oil, honey and milk cream.
- Honey is a great moisturiser for chapped lip. Simply apply honey on your lips, or make a paste of honey and glycerin and apply it before going to bed to enjoy softer lips in the morning.
- Apply fresh milk cream on your lips and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then, gently wash your lips with a cotton ball dipped in lukewarm water. Do this daily to enjoy soft and pink lips.
# Exfoliate Weekly
Just like your skin, your lips too need exfoliation. Exfoliating your lips helps them to get rid of dull and flaky skin. Infact, regular exfoliation will help you to achieve soft and pink lips. Exfoliating once or twice a week is enough. More than that can worsen your lips and cause irritation, redness and soreness.
# Moisturise time to time
During winter you need to keep your lips moisturised all day to prevent them from getting dry. Apply a moisturising lip balm several times a day to keep your lips properly hydrated.
# Lip care before bedtime
During this cold season, a lip care routine is crucial before going to bed. Wash your lips thoroughly with lukewarm water. Pat dry with soft cloth and then immediately apply lip balm. Choose oil based lip balm rather than water based or alcohol based formula to help your lips retain moisture during night.
