5 DIY Homemade Lip Scrubs

When it comes to lip care, more often than not, people tend to limit themselves to hydrating their lips with lip gloss and lip balms. It is important to realize that you do need to exfoliate your lips regularly to maintain a healthy, smooth pout. When your lips get dry and chapped, they tend to flake and peel. Your lip balm just doesn’t work like magic for chapped lips but a lip scrub can come to your rescue.A lip scrub helps to slough off dead, chapped skin and helps your lip balm penetrate deeper into the skin and you are rewarded with supple and healthier lips.
A typical lip scrub is made of two ingredients, an exfoliator and a nourishing agent. If you don’t want to spend a fortune on purchasing expensive scrubs from the market; you can simply make a lip scrub at home with a couple of easy-to-find ingredients from your kitchen cabinet.
* Cinnamon lip scrub
Cinnamon is a natural lip plumper, it also acts as a natural exfoliator and helps you achieve smooth, soft lips instantly. This scrub can work wonders to give you supple and nourished pout. To make this scrub, mix ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon with ½ teaspoon of raw honey and ½ tablespoon of olive oil and whip it to make a coarse paste. Apply the scrub using your fingertips and gently rub in circular motion to slough off the dead skin cells.Rinse with lukewarm water and follow with your favourite lip balm.
* Coffee and honey scrub
Coffee isn’t just great to give you that much needed caffeine boost in the morning, it also helps in boosting healthy lips. Mix 1 tablespoon of coffee grounds with 1 tablespoon of honey. Dab this scrub onto your lips and massage in a circular motion for about one minute.Leave it on as a mask for another minute and wash away with warm water. This combo of coffee grounds and honey is a reliable way to exfoliate and moisturize and instantly hydrate your lips.
* Almond lip scrub
This is yet another quick fix for chapped lips which is extremely easy to whip up and efficient with results. Take 2 tablespoons of brown sugar with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of almond oil. Mist the ingredients well till it gets properly blended. Apply a small amount on your lips and gently rub in circular motion. Lightly rinse to take off the sugar, but leave a little almond oil on for hydration.Almond oil helps to rejuvenate dead cells and prevents further chapping of lips. You can use this scrub on a regular basis for healthy lips.
* Vitamin E lip scrub
Vitamin E is a natural conditioner and antioxidant which works effectively to treat chapped and irritated lips instantly. To make this scrub you need 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon or 2 capsules of vitamin E and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar. Mix these ingredients well till they are all nicely blended. Apply the scrub by rubbing your lips with a clean finger in a circular motion. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow it up with a lip balm to lock in moisture.
* Orange peel lip scrub
Take 2 tablespoons of dried orange peel powder,add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 10 – 12 drops of almond oil to the powder and mix well. Gently scrub this mixture on your lips for about 30 seconds.Clean your lips with a wet wipe or wash with warm water. Repeat this scrub twice a week for best results. The orange peel works brilliantly totreat dark and discoloured lips, while sugar works as a natural exfoliator. Almond oil helps nourish and moisturize dry, chapped lips.
