5 Most Educated Indian Cricketers

Cricket is very nearly a religion in India. There would be very few people in the country who haven’t yet watched a cricket match. Having seen them don the uniform and play the sport as second nature, it is intriguing to ponder on what these cricketers have by way of academic qualification. Rather unintuitively some of them hold degrees in Engineering, some in Medicine, others in Commerce, even Astrophysics and Business Administration.
# Javagal Srinath
Javagal Srinath is a former member of the Indian cricket team and is currently an ICC Match Referee. He is considered one among India’s finest fast bowlers and remains the only Indian fast bowler to have taken more than 300 wickets in ODIs. Srinath made his test debut in the year 1991 against Australia and his last one day international match was also against Australia in the year 2003. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Instrumentation Technology from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Mysuru. He is a recipient of the Arjuna Award in 1999.
# Anil Kumble
Born in 1970 at Bengaluru, Anil Kumble seemingly performed magic with his right arm leg break bowling style, taking the Indian team to victory on many occasions. He was also the Test Captain for team India for a time. Kumble completed his pre-university college education from National College Basavanagudi. His cricketing career lasted from 1989 to 2010. Kumble graduated with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering (RVCE). Along with being one of the most well educated cricketers around, he is also a recipient of the Padma Shri award and one of the Indian cricketers who feature in the ICC Hall of Fame.
# Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid or “The Wall” is a legendary batsman and wicket keeper. He has led Team India in both Tests and ODIs and is known for his nature to keep calm and collected demeanor. He made his test debut in the year 1996 and his last test match was played in the year 2012. He did his schooling at St. Joseph’s Boy’s High School, Bangalore. He holds a Graduate Degree in Commerce from St. Joseph’s College of Commerce in Bangalore. He was selected in the Indian National Cricket Team while pursuing his MBA in St Joseph’s College of Business Administration, making him one of the most well educated cricketers of India!
# Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin has made a name for himself as a reliable bowler in ODIs and T20s, and as a formidable all-rounder in Tests. He hails from Tamil Nadu and came into the spotlight playing in the Indian Premier League. He holds a Bachelor in Technology degree in Information Technology from the reputed SSN College of Engineering in Chennai. He had his schooling from Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) and St. Bede’s, both of which have a reputation for providing quality education. After his graduation he worked in Cognizant Technology Solutions before turning fully to cricket.
# Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay came to the attention of the Indian people when he was the opening batsman for the Chennai Superkings IPL team. Since then he has graduated to playing for Team India on several occasions and in all formats of the game. He has a Post Graduate Degree in Economics. He holds the degree from the renowned SRM university.
