Bollywood Celebs Who Lost Lok Sabha Elections In Their First Attempt

As the results of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 surfaced, BJP won with a massive margin beating Congress and other parties of respective alliances. Meanwhile in Mumbai North, Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar lost her debut candidature on behalf of Congress. She was defeated by Gopal Shetty of BJP. Although she maintains that her work for the party will continue in the coming years and she is no way intending to back out, here’s a list of other Bollywood celebs who also made headlines in elections but lost in their first attempt.
* Shekhar Suman
Actor, anchor, producer, director, and singer, Shekhar Suman is a renowned personality on the cinematic front. His show Poll Khol- a satirical take at politicians gave him the deserved spotlight on television too. However, he fought Lok Sabha Election in May 2009 and lost to then BJP’s Shatrughan Sinha (now how joined Congress and lost from the Patna constituency.
* Rakhi Sawant
Controversy queen Rakhi Sawant is known to be a loose cannon in the media. Her recent publicity stunt amid the MeToo Movement was indeed distrubing for many, but the actress once even shared the podium with politicians. During the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, she launched her own political party, headed by Jai Shah, called the Rashtriya Aam Party, However, after the election, she joined Republican Party of India (A).
* Arun Govil
Indian actor, producer and director, Arun Govil is best known for his role as Ram in Ramayan (1986-87). Being a mythological character expected him to garner votes, which eventually backfired, and lost Lok Sabha elections for Congress in late 1980s.
* Mahesh Manjrekar
Indian film director, actor, writer and producer, Mahesh Manjrekar has his own set of fan following, courtesy some daring roles on-screen and a spectacular vision as a filmmaker. In 2014, he was a MNS candidate from Mumbai North West for the Lok Sabha Elections, but lost to Gajanan Kirtikar of Shiv Sena.
