Renowned Irish actor Michael Gambon, famous for his iconic portrayal of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film series, has passed away at the age of 82.

As reported by Variety, his family released a statement expressing their grief: "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sir Michael Gambon. He was a cherished husband and father, and he peacefully departed in the hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus by his side, following a battle with pneumonia."

The statement continued, "During this difficult time, we kindly request privacy and extend our heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support and love."

Over a career spanning an impressive six decades, Gambon achieved recognition with four television BAFTA awards and stood as one of the original members of the esteemed Royal National Theatre.
