New York Magazine Calls Priyanka Chopra a Scam Artist

The West does not believe in fairy tale weddings and at least one columnist working for New York Magazine is surely repelled by them. More so, when the lady in matrimony happens to be the first major Indian crossover star in America.

So, for Mariah Smith, incidentally a Black, Priyanka Chopra is a ‘global scam artist’ and Nick Jonas needs to get on the horse that he rode to his wedding and ‘gallop away as fast as you can’. But as is true of this new breed of bloggers and columnists, there is nothing to back the fantastic claim.

“Nicholas Jonas married into a fraudulent relationship against his will this past Saturday, December the 1st, and I’ll tell you why I think so,” writes Smith, as she spews venom on an unsuspecting Priyanka, the star of ABC drama series Quantico. Not just that, the article labels Priyanka a ‘modern-day scam artist’ and suggests that Nick has ‘married against his will.’

Actor Sonam Kapoor was among those who took offence, outraged at the racist rant of a journalist who possibly looks at all people from the sub-continent as gold diggers. A furious Sonam tweeted, “For a publication that ‘shows women what they are made of’ The Cut has a lot to answer for. The article on Priyanka Chopra was sexist, racist and disgusting. Also it’s written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness.”

There is more obnoxious nuggets in the article. So, Priyanka’s confession that she ‘works very hard to spoil herself’ is connected to ‘shopping around for the finer things in life while her team shops for finer men.’’ But that is enough of a rotten egg. Over to Twitter.
