Raveena Tandon Stirs Controversy With Her Tweet On Farmers Strike

Even as the ongoing farmers’ stir across several states entered its fourth day on Monday, Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon stirred a controversy with her tweet about the strike. She tweeted, “What a sad thing to happen. Terrible way to protest. Anyone harming public property, transport or commodities, should be instantly arrested and jailed without bail.”
This set off trolls who accused her of being insensitive and questioned her political leanings. She later deleted the tweet and put out a clarification. She also slammed the media for distorting her comments. She tweeted that publications should understand a tweet before replacing the words and twisting them in their reports. She tweeted, “I said “ANYONE” and not FARMERS, anti-socials to be arrested!” She reiterated with another tweet, “I DID NOT demand the arrest of farmers! But the ARREST OF ANTISOCIALS – who are wasting produce in the name of farmers, instead of donating it to the poor!”
She further tweeted, “Have always stood by the farmers. Read my timeline. Always voiced my concern over suicides/debt/government neglect. I am only against any kind of hard earned produce going waste.” Meanwhile, the protests saw a mixed impact on Monday with prices of agricultural produce, including vegetables, rising in some urban areas while their supply remained more or less normal in other pockets.
