After the trailer of Sunny Leone’s biopic was released, it has grabbed eyeballs of everyone, and now it looks like the title of the web series ‘Karenjit Kaur: The untold story of Sunny Leone’ has attracted a controversy. Sikh community has a objection to the suffix ‘Kaur’ used in the title.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGOC) Spokesperson Daljit Singh Bedi has objected to the suffix Kaur which is being used in the series ‘Karenjit Kaur the untold story of Sunny Leone.’
“She changed her religion and cannot use Kaur with her name.It is a very pious suffix given to Sikh women by the Sikh gurus. The person who is not a follower of Sikh religion cannot use Kaur. She should tender a public apology as the title has insulted Sikhs,” Daljit Singh Bedi said to India Today.
Even Akali Dal’s women chief has demanded to remove the name Kaur from the title. “She is using Kaur word to make the series a success. We demand removal of the title as this will hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs ,” Jagir Kaur said.
Meanwhile, the series is slated for a release amid the controversy. Sunny plays her own role in the series which makes the series a breed apart from other biopics.
