For Maya Sarabhai, played by Ratna Pathak, almost of things were "so middle class". She was the most sophisticated and classy lady of the house. She didn`t liked any mess in her house.

On the other hand her daughter-in-law Monisha Sarabhai had all those components of being an typical Middle class person... She was a lady that loved to eat on street side and do all those cheap stuff that would make her happy. Her house was always a mess.
