Working all day on your computer or staring down at your smartphone for hours always gives us a stiff neck. In fact, in the past three months, nearly 20% of people have experienced neck pain, as reported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s how common it is, and pretty much why it is always taken for granted. Typically, a stiff neck is the result of muscles that weaken over time due to misused or poor posture.
# Massage
- First, relax your muscles by taking a hot shower or bath.
- Heat up some coconut, mustard or olive oil until it is slightly warm.
- Apply the oil on the affected area.
- Massage using gentle form of strokes for a couple of minutes.
# Cold Compress
- First, wrap some ice cubes in a thin towel.
- Hold the compress against the affected area for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Repeat this every 2 hours for the first 48 hours.
# Peppermint Oil
- First, warm 2 teaspoons of olive oil in the microwave for a few seconds.
- Add a few drops of peppermint essential oil to it.
- Using the warm oil, gently massage your neck.
- Repeat this remedy 2 times a day for a few days.
- Alternatively, you can add 2 drops of peppermint oil to a big bowl of cold water.
- Soak a washcloth in the water and place it on your neck for 0 to 15 minutes.
- Repeat as often as you need to.
# Epsom Salt
- Add 2 cups of Epsom salt to a bathtub full of warm water.
- Relax and soak in the water, ensuring that your neck area is submerged, for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Do this 3 times a week.
