Lemon is the most widely used vegetable across the country. Well, it has to be as it has ample of health and beauty benefits. But at the same time, it also comes with a number of adverse side effects. Can’t believe this?
1. Stomach
If you consume raw lemon juice in more quantity in a day, chances are high that you will end up having an upset stomach. Our system is unable to digest all in a single go, which is why it keeps the stomach highly acidic for a long time. Consequently, the mucous membranes of the digestive tract get irritated, leading to stomach pain and loose motion.
2. Peptic Ulcers
Excessive consumption of lemon can make your stomach extremely acidic by stimulating the production of acid in it. This takes a toll on the inner wall of the organ and irritates its lining. This results in mild to severe peptic ulcers.
3. Kidney Stone
Along with lemon juice, lemon peels too are used in cooking worldwide. Yet, it has been found that these peels contain huge amounts of oxalates. The oxalates turn into crystals within our body and interrupt calcium absorption to a large extent. The unabsorbed calcium solidifies within our kidneys and gallbladder in the form of stones.
4. Urination
The acidic nature of lemon is attributed to its high content of Vitamin C. Even though this vitamin is beneficial for our body, it makes the fruit a natural diuretic. The side effects of lemon excessively may increase your urge for urination. You may need to visit the bathroom every now and then.
5. Migraine
Studies have proved that lemon can be one of the most common reasons behind frequent migraine or headache attacks. It contains a considerable amount of amino acid called tyramine, which boosts the flow of blood to our brain, all of a sudden. This leads to symptoms like acute migraine or chronic tension-type headaches.
