It's flu season, and dealing with a congested nose, loss of appetite, and fever while sitting on your bed can be quite disheartening. Trying to breathe through a blocked nose can be challenging, potentially disrupting your daily activities. Don't worry, though; there are a couple of remedies you can try to alleviate your stuffy nose. This article delves into the signs and causes of nasal congestion and provides tips on how to quickly relieve it.
The term "stuffy nose" is commonly used to describe nasal congestion, often stemming from an underlying health issue, such as the common cold.
Nasal congestion typically manifests with various signs and symptoms. In newborns, nasal congestion lasting up to a month is common and may be accompanied by sneezing, which is considered normal. Infants might also face difficulties in feeding due to a congested nose. While nasal syringing is commonly used for infants, it can also be beneficial for adults!
# Warm Compress
Materials Required:
A fresh washcloth
Warm water
Procedure:
- Heat a bowl of water.
- Immerse a clean washcloth in the warm water.
- Place the damp washcloth over your nose and forehead.
- Keep it on for a minute or two and then remove.
- Repeat this process 3 to 4 times.
- Perform this routine 2 to 3 times a day until you observe an improvement in your condition.
# Apple Cider Vinegar
Materials Required:
1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
1 glass of warm water
Procedure:
- Add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water.
- Mix thoroughly and consume the solution.
- Drink this mixture 1 to 2 times daily.
- Apple cider vinegar is rich in acetic acid and potassium, both of which can effectively alleviate symptoms associated with a congested nose. Potassium aids in thinning mucus, while acetic acid combats microbial infections that contribute to congestion.
# Peppermint Tea
Materials Required:
8-10 peppermint leaves
1 cup of water
Procedure:
- Place the peppermint leaves in a cup of water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil in a saucepan.
- Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, then strain.
- Consume the prepared peppermint tea.
- Enjoy peppermint tea 1 to 2 times daily.
# Neti Pot
Materials Required:
A neti pot
Distilled saline water
Procedure:
- Fill the neti pot with distilled saline water.
- Tilt your head over a sink and pour the saline solution from the neti pot into one nostril.
- Allow the water to drain through the lower nostril.
- Repeat the process with the other nostril.
- Breathe through your mouth while executing this procedure.
- After each use, rinse the neti pot with distilled water and allow it to air dry.
# Salt And Water
Materials Required:
1 cup of warm distilled water
½ teaspoon of salt
Procedure:
- Add half a teaspoon of salt to a cup of warm distilled water.
- Thoroughly mix until the salt dissolves completely.
- Lean over a basin and inhale the water through one nostril at a time.
- Repeat the process with the other nostril.
- This method is particularly suitable for individuals without a neti pot.
- Employ this remedy as needed.
# Coconut Oil
Materials Required:
1 teaspoon of cold-pressed coconut oil
Procedure:
- Take a teaspoon of cold-pressed coconut oil and warm it.
- Gently apply the warmed coconut oil on both sides of your nose.
- Leave it on until your skin fully absorbs it.
- Repeat this process 2 to 3 times daily.
- The application of coconut oil topically on your nose exhibits decongestant effects, possibly attributed to the potent moisturizing, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties of coconut oil.
