Laryngitis is an inflammation of the larynx, commonly referred to as the voice box. This condition often results in a hoarse voice or even temporary voice loss. The larynx, located in the throat, houses the vocal cords—two folds of mucous membrane that vibrate to produce sound. When the larynx becomes inflamed or irritated, these vibrations are affected, leading to changes in voice quality.
Common Causes of Laryngitis:
* Infections:
- Viral infections, such as the common cold or flu.
- Bacterial infections, though less common.
* Overuse of the Voice:
- Prolonged speaking, shouting, or singing.
* Irritants:
- Smoking, pollution, or inhaling chemical fumes.
- Gastroesophageal reflux (acid reflux) can also irritate the larynx.
* Allergies:
- Exposure to allergens like pollen or dust.
Types of Laryngitis:
* Acute Laryngitis:
- Short-term and often caused by viral infections or vocal strain.
* Chronic Laryngitis:
- Long-term and typically due to persistent irritants like smoking, reflux, or prolonged overuse of the voice.

How to Use: Dissolve ½ teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Gargle with the solution and spit it out. Repeat this process three times daily.
# Chamomile Tea
A warm cup of chamomile tea is soothing for an inflamed throat. This herbal tea, rich in terpenoids and flavonoids, is highly effective in treating throat inflammation, hoarseness, and soreness.
How to Use: Boil 1 tablespoon of chamomile in 1 cup (8 oz) of water. Allow it to steep for five minutes, then strain. Drink the tea 2–3 times a day.
# Ginger
Ginger, known for its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, is a potent remedy for various ailments, including respiratory disorders and throat infections. It combats the infections causing throat irritation effectively.
How to Use: Make ginger tea by boiling it in water. Alternatively, add ginger to meals, juices, or smoothies. You can also keep a small piece of ginger in your mouth and slowly suck its juice.

Eucalyptus oil is an aromatic remedy with antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory benefits. A study on 60 patients demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing symptoms like sore throat, hoarseness, and pain while talking within three days.
How to Use: Add 4–5 drops of eucalyptus oil to a bowl of hot water. Cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam for 10 minutes, twice daily.

How to Use: Incorporate garlic into meals or place a clove in your mouth, slowly sucking its juice.
