7 Household Works Pregnant Women Should Not Do

Pregnancy shouldn't be a reason to stay idle all day. While rest is essential, it's equally crucial to keep your body in motion during this period. However, you need to exercise extra caution, considering the presence of the little one growing inside your womb.
The significant weight gain during pregnancy necessitates a reevaluation of your body's balance, particularly with the concentration of weight in the belly area. This concentration makes mobility challenging for pregnant women, leading to exhaustion that may leave you questioning whether you should tackle household chores.
For the most part, it's safe to engage in various household tasks during pregnancy, but some activities are best avoided. It's important to discern what you should and shouldn't do and understand how strenuous household work can impact your health during this crucial period.
# Handling furniture or lifting heavy objects
Avoid any tasks involving the lifting or moving of heavy objects during the initial trimester to minimize the risk of back injuries and strain. Hormonal changes in pregnancy can loosen tough tissues in joints and the pelvic floor, increasing the susceptibility to injuries.
# Prolonged standing
Steer clear of activities requiring extended periods of standing, especially considering common morning sickness and fatigue during the early hours. Prolonged standing can lead to swelling and back pain due to increased pressure on your feet. Take regular breaks during cooking and refrain from extended standing.
# Tasks involving bending
During pregnancy, avoid chores that necessitate bending, such as mopping, laundry, and floor cleaning. Weight gain can subtly shift the body's center of gravity, making bending potentially harmful to the sciatic nerve. If any task feels uncomfortable, cease immediately.
# Climbing or balancing tasks
Avoid climbing on stools or ladders when pregnant due to the added weight affecting coordination and balance. There's a risk of harm to both you and the baby, potentially leading to preterm labor or premature placenta separation. Seek assistance for such tasks to ensure safety.
# Use of harsh chemicals
To prevent potential harm to the fetal brain, refrain from using insecticides containing chemicals like piperonyl butoxide during pregnancy. Opt for natural, chemical-free products when shopping for household items to mitigate any pregnancy-related complications.
# Hanging curtains and cleaning fans
Even without pregnancy, tasks involving ladders pose a risk of falling and loss of balance. If pregnant, with an expanding belly and compromised balance, it's advisable to avoid such tasks. Seek assistance for your safety, even if you lack someone to help you.
# Litter cleaning
Cleaning cat litter poses a risk of contracting the Toxoplasma gondii parasite carried by cats, which can harm pregnancy. If you must clean litter, wear gloves, a nose and mouth mask, and preferably a coat to protect against microbial contamination. Thoroughly wash afterwards to ensure your safety.
