We all want to travel comfortably on flights and enjoy the little world seen from above. The services available while traveling by flight, quick delivery, fast mode, the convenience of sitting comfortably, everything remains very enjoyable. But there are some things that make travel a bit risky and if you have aerophobia, then you will remember the flight experience for life. Some 3 such airports are located in the North East, which are known for their dangerous journey.
# Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport
The ‘Popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport’ is a very important airport in the northeastern part of India. In fact, it is also the 12th busiest Indian airport. Traveling to this airport in Guwahati is often considered risky due to the extremely inclement weather. Delayed flights are also the biggest problem here. Also, it takes a lot of time to complete the security check and check-in formalities here, apart from other commercial airports in the country.
# Lengpui Airport
Lengpui Airport is the only airport in the state of Mizoram. This airport is located 3 km away from the state capital Aizwal. This airport was constructed long before the Second World War. Allied forces built this airport at that time and used it during the war. The currents flowing here below the runway make this airport very special. Along with this, the risk here increases with heavy rains every monsoon. This is the reason why this airport is one of the most dangerous airports in the Northeast.
# Bir Tikendrajit International Airport
Manipur’s ‘Bir Tikendrajit International Airport’ is quite infamous for its risky activities. This airport is situated at an altitude of about 775 meters above sea level. Flying at this airport in Imphal is actually quite a challenge, as there is a lot of mountain around the border of this place. These hills make it very difficult for pilots to fly. Here, to land the flight on the runway, the pilots need to drive at a very risky steep angle. There is a high risk of hitting the mountains here.
# Shimla Airport
Not only the North East, if we talk about the airports of other places in India, then the name of Shimla Airport is also included in it. Shimla airport at Jubbarhatti in Himachal Pradesh is known as one of the riskiest table-top runways in India. According to aviation experts, its length is about 300 meters less than the required length. The runway of this airport is only 1230 meters.
# Mangalore Airport
Mangalore airport is also a table top airport like Kozhikode airport. A heart-wrenching incident took place here in May 2010, in which an Air India plane overshot a table-top runway, and then came under fire after falling down a hill. Of the 166 people on board, only 8 survived. The cause of the accident was said to be the fault of the pilot.
