Raipur is a city in Raipur district in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is the largest city and the erstwhile capital of Chhattisgarh. It was formerly a part of Madhya Pradesh before the state of Chhattisgarh was formed on 1 November 2000. It is believed that King Ramachandra established the city of Raipur and subsequently made it the capital of his kingdom. Another story about Raipur is that King Ramachandra's son Brahmdeo Rai had established Raipur, where Raipur means King's City, from Sankrit Rai for King and Pur for city. His capital was Khalwatika (now Khallari). This region had become the domain of Bhosle kings after Amarsingh Deo's death. With the death of Raghuji III, the territory was assumed by the British government from Bhonsla'a of Nagpur and Chhattisgarh was declared a separate division, the Chhattisgarh Division of the Central Provinces, with its headquarters at Raipur in 1852. At the time of the independence of India Raipur district was included in the Central Provinces and Berar.
* Korba
Korba, the power capital of Chhattisgarh is covered with green forests and situated on the confluence of the rivers Ahiran and Hasdeo. It is located at an altitude of 252 meters. There are power plants and is an essential source of electricity in Chhattisgarh. Korba coalfields are also located in the region. The local language of the people here is Chhattisgarhi. The majority of the population comprises of tribal people or Adivasis. Gonda, Kawar, Binjwar, Satnami, Raj Gond etc. are few of the tribes residing in the region. Apart from the major festivals of India many tribal festivals are celebrated in the region namely Pola, Hareli, Karma, Dev Uthni etc. Pola festival is celebrated by the ritual of worshiping bullocks.
* Koriya
Koriya district, is a district in the north-western part of the Chhattisgarh state in Central India. The administrative headquarter of the district is Baikunthpur. It is bounded on the North by Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh, on the South by Korba district, on the East by Surguja district, and on the West by Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh. The district came into existence on 25th May, 1998, in Madhya Pradesh State, now a part of Chattisgarh district.
* Mahasamund
Once ruled by the Somavansiya Emperors, Mahasamund is a center of rich traditional art and culture. Mahasamund forms the central eastern part of Chhattisgarh. * Bhilai
The city of Bhilai is located in the Durg district in Chhattisgarh. It is situated on National Highway No. 6, 25 km away from Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh. The largest steel plant of India, Bhilai Steel Plant is situated here. It is the only manufacturer of rails in the country.
* Kabirdham
Kabirdham was earlier known as Kawardha district and is situated between Durg, Rajnandgaon, Raipur and Bilaspur. It stretches over an area of 4447.5 sq km. Kabirdham is a serene and peaceful place which is favoured by nature lovers. The surrounding is picturesque with forests, mountains and religious sculptures. Western and northern part of Kabirdham are bounded by Maikal mountain ranges of Satpura. It is located on the southern bank of river Sakari. It adds to the beauty of the place.
